Dead of Night delves into the relationship between politics, lonliness, social media and the pervasive spread of misinformation. It examines how identities are continuously molded by media influences and weaponised as both commercial and political tools. The video presents an unsettling phone conversation with an anonymous figure who is part of an alt-right online political group. Through her candid words, she reveals her attraction to radical politics and how this community effects her life. This project emerges from an investigation into the world of fringe political movements, looking into the dynamics of group identity and the coded behaviors that define these online political spaces. The anonmyous member talks about the isolation felt in the digital age, pointing towards a need for community and conversation.

This work comes from a body of research into online subcultures such as political groups, gaming servers and ASMR communities. Drawing on content from interviews with members of these groups, this work offers an insight into group identities and their complex language and behavioural codes. Unignorable in this work is a prevailing sense of intense isolation and an avoidance of addressing this issue.
